The jump shot has its name for a reason. By elevating off of the floor it allows for a shorter
path for the ball, but mainly provides power for the shooter.

The force he creates by pushing off the floor is transferred thru is body
up his arm and finally is exerted on the ball as it leaves his hand.

The ball is immediately rotating backwards as it comes off his index
and middle fingers causing the ball to slow its velocity
as it travels towards the basket.

As he follows through with the uniform  shooting motion, his hand
begins to point downward as if he were reaching into cookie jar
