To provide insight into the petroleum production stream; both exploration and production are considered to be upstream. The term well completion is nestled under production which in the scheme of production takes place after exploration and drilling is complete.  Once well control, and work over is complete the midstream process leads the produced material through pipelines to  the downstream process or the refining process where the material is processed for commercial use. The picture below represents just one example of a work over rig performing a work over.
