As his fame grew, he put his wealth into inventions,  continuing to experiment with the properties of alternating current and electricity in general.  Exploring into high frequency electricity, he attempted to use rotary alternating current generators but found at desired speeds, the machines would fall apart.  So in 1891, Tesla invented the "Tesla Coil," a high frequency alternating-current transformer. The components of the device were stationary and thus allowed the amplification of the current and generation of a greater amount of voltage without falling apart.
His scientific discovers and observations on the nature of electricity were often written in his personal paperwork and magazines such as "Electrical Experimenter."  Attributing around 300 patents to his name during his lifetime, he made discoveries such as the rotating magnetic field and helped to make advancements in the fields of wireless communication, x-ray, and energy.
