Nuclear Power and applications can bring humans to cause great harm and ease to each other. Most people these days still live in fear when terms such as Uranium, plutonium, and Gamma rays are mentioned. Fear of nuclear disaster still haunts our lives with media corporations spreading fear to more and more citizens each day. Nuclear disaster events like Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, and Fukushima bring the questionable safety of nuclear energy. Yet there is a bright side to nuclear physics, and it brings health and prosperity to the world.
Medical and biological benefits resulting from nuclear physics has brought many cures and new innovative early detection techniques. Radiation therapy has given doctors new weapons to fight deadly illnesses. Hospitals and clinics worldwide use Nuclear and magnetic resonance to see through the human body with out surgical operations. The American Cancer Society expects 1,660,290 cases of cancer to be diagnosed in 2013, and 580,350 death will die the same year from cancer illnesses. That is 1,590 deaths a day, 66 deaths an hour, and nearly one death a minute. The physics behind nuclear radiation can save lives and bring cures to those in need.
