Medical Application

In order for us to start having fun with quantitative medicinal nuclear physics we have to develop an understanding of a few things. As when discussed in the Nuclear Radiation page, we discovered that ionizing radiation is the radiation of energy or tiny particulates. Well how does this affect the biological system for it to be useful in the medical field?

Lets start of by stating that the majority of our physiology is made up of cells and molecules, which build our tissues and organs. When radiation comes in contact with these biological processes something happens which is truly astonishing. The cells begin to mutate as bombardments of radiation hits their machinery processes, rampant cell regeneration occurs and finally death of cells, tissues and organs occur.
