INTRODUCTION
Applications of physics can be found in almost every aspect of everyday
life. For many people in the state of Alaska, "every day life" consists
of fishing. Fishing is not only a recreational sport, but also a means
of income and subsistence. So what does the simple action of fishing
have to do with the laws and applications of physics? The following is
an examination and analysis of the relationships between each component
of a certain method of fishing and physics.

The fishing method of examination is frequently used by
fisherman all over the state of Alaska, predominantly in the
southeastern region known as the panhandle part of the state. The
distinguishing factor of this method is the use of downriggers (which
will be defined in greater detail in the next slide). When
using this process, fisherman are mainly targeting the Alaskan game
fish, salmon, which is portrayed in the photo above. The next section
will cover exactly how this approach is set up and an explanation of
tools and terms utilized by this fishing method.
