New Brunswick, New Jersey, February 27, 1947: Birthplace of the
esteemed physicist Alan Harvey Guth.
Guth grew up in New Jersey. The public schools of Highland Park were
the inital. Guth chose to skip his senior year of high school in favor
of enrolling at MIT.
Originally attending Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Guth
transferred his senior year into a program that allowed for a
bachelor's and a master's with only two more years of schooling.
1969: Guth received his bachelor's and his master's degrees, both in
physics.
1971: Guth wed his high school girlfriend Susan Tisch. The couple has
two children: Lawrence in 1977 & Jennifer in 1983.
1972: Guth received his doctorate in physics
Francis Low, a theoretical physicst at MIT, supervised Guth's thesis,
"an exploration of an early model of how quarks combine to form the
elementary particles that we observe"

Guth worked for several different universities before he found his home
at MIT. These included four years at Princeton (1971 to 1974), Columbia
(1974 to 1977), Cornell (1977 to 1979), and the Stanford Linear
Acceleration Center (1979 to 1980)
