Conclusion
By examining specific components, calculations, and the physics that altogether affect a baseball, we can understand the principles of projectile flight. Knowledge of the path, air resistance, and contact forces permit us to determine if hitting a baseball a distance of 500 feet is feasible. These difficult variables to overcome prohibit most powerful sluggers a chance to meet such an accomplishment. Even Mark McGwire, now retired, may have had the power to complete such a goal, but was unable to do so. Considering the velocity, contact points, wind, and the many other variables under certain circumstances proves the challenge difficult. Yet he was still an American hero.
With new and better understanding of the physics governing trajectory, I am sure we will sleep well tonight.
