Electromagnetics Before Maxwell 


For centuries, scientists and natural philosophers have been perplexed by the phenomenon of light. Many in ancient times believed that light eminated from the eye. This absurd philosophy gave way to a more complete knowledge over time. With objective observation and experimentation many scientists formulated theories to explain the behavior of light. Three easily observable properties needed to be explained by any theory put forward; reflection, refraction and rectilinear propogation (examples shown below).
