Sir Isaac Newton | |
Sir Isaac Newton was born on January 4, 1642 in Lincoln England. His father died shortly after his birth and his mother remaired soon after. As he grew older his family expected to carry on the family buisness of farming. His mother though recognized his mathematical gifts and sent him to study at Trinity College in Cambridge in 1661. When the college closed in 1665 due to the plauge he returned home where he spent two years studying math and phyiscs. It was durring this time that Newton first began developing the theory of gravitiaion and the theory of optics. Newton was the first one to understand that white light is made up of all the colors of the rainbow, in fact, one of his first major scientific achievment was the invention of the reflecting telescope. In Newton's law of universal gravitation he explains the realtionship between the mass and radius of two bodies and the gravitational force between them. A memeber of many prestigious scientific societies, he published numerous works including Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica, and Optics. He is considered the father of modern physics and his discoveries in the fields of gravity and mechanics are the basis for modern physics. |
