ABSTRACT

Last year was the 100th anniversary of the publication of Einstein's Theory of General Relativity. In honor of that, we will discuss a little bit about the theory, its predictions and the verification of those predictions.

The bulk of the presentation will be spent discussing the 100 year old prediction of the existance of Gravity Waves, the remarkable decades long search for which ended with the incredible discovery that was finally announced yesterday (Thursday 11 Feb.). This discovery will likely open an entirely new area of astronomy over the next few years, namely Gravity Wave astronomy. The search, discovery and it's future implications will be discussed.
