In the animal kingdom, “safety in numbers” refers to the idea that animals face less risk in large groups than as individuals. In this talk, I will use the same idea to illustrate advantages of observing global phenomena such as the radio aurora with large distributed arrays of instruments. I will give a brief overview of the history of the radio aurora research and introduce different types of the radio aurora. In addition, I will describe how a particular type of the radio aurora behaves just like animals (in some sense) and present results of one recent study using radio observations in Antarctica.
