ABSTRACT

Deregulation of energy has occured concomitant with huge swings in prices and large fluctuations in supply. Are they related? We will look at a simple (complex systems) model of the power transmission system coupled to an agent based model of the energy market to try to understand some of the mechanisms by which they interact and the impact on reliability of those interactions. Implications for regulation will be discussed as will the broader implications for other infrastructure systems.
