ABSTRACT

The OpenLuna Foundation is a privately funded project seeking to return mankind to the lunar surface, first through robotic missions, followed by manned exploration, culminating in an eight person permanent outpost, and to do all of this in a way that it is accessible to everyone. The research and technology will be open-source, and one of our specific goals is to reach out to the community and educational systems to spread interest, enthusiasm, and involvement. As a not-for-profit company, funding so far are from donations and membership dues. We are gearing up to seek corporate and private sponsorship. One major source of income will be through education and entertainment. The company has been forming over the last couple of years and has gaining momentum over the last few months. I became actively involved after the first membership meeting in June 2009 where the board was formed and officers were elected and I became VP of Membership and Development.
