| ABSTRACT
In recent years,
there has been an explosion in the field of
digital auroral photography — all but replacing traditional "film
photography." Many – if not the vast majority – of those
taking part are
amateurs. We take a look at this burgeoning field of digital auroral
photography — discussing equipment, ideas, techniques, short-term
prediction of auroral conditions, and traditional weather (visibility).
R. Todd Parris will talk about some of the technical issues of making
auroral animations. Poul Jensen will then give a discussion of the
details, equipment, and techniques of auroral photography. And finally,
John Styers will speak on some of the motivations for auroral photography,
with perhaps a few amusing anecdotes of the journey that brought him to
the consuming hobby of auroral photography, and the University of Alaska
Fairbanks.
