Protons:
particles in conjunction with neutrons that
make up the nucleus in atoms.
These particles have wave properties. Protons
are the nucleus of the simplest atom
hydrogen and have a positive charge (= +e =
+1.60 C
10-19C same magnitude as for the
electron).
Magnets
produce magnetic fields, along
with electric currents. Magnets
have two poles, north and south.
Protons are
subject to the rules of magnets
because of their positive
charge. Like charges repel each
other, while unlike charges
attract. When separated out,
proton are positively charged.
Having a good understanding of WHAT
protons are will allow a better conceptual grasp
on how Proton Therapy works to help suffering
patients.
