The Magnetosphere
As the solar wind travels through space, it eventually
encounters earth`s magnetic field. Movement of the charged
particles that make up the
solar wind is influenced by this field. The interactions of
earth`s magnetic field and the solar wind forms the
magnetosphere. The magnetosphere
is dynamic, and highly influenced by variations in solar
outflow. Protons and electrons in the solar wind bombard this
sphere, constantly causing
it to change its shape. This results in a barrier that
protects the surface of the earth from the solar wind.
