Air pressure affects the weather on a global
scale: when you are watching the weather and they
tell you that a storm front is rolling in because
a low pressure system is rolling in, that is in
fact a swath of low atmospheric pressure.
When calculating the swath of low and high
pressure systems we often use isobars which map
out equal levels of pressure on a map, as shown in
Figure 1.
High pressure systems usually bring with
them clear, cool and settled air, whereas low
pressure systems often carry with them stormy
weather. [9]
