Although sometimes known as a bit 'ornery and quarrelsome, Newton's accomplishments in the math and science arena's can certainly not be disputed. His death in London in 1727 marked the loss of one of the greatest scientists that ever lived.
English poet Alexander Pope summarized Newton's accomplishments in this famous epitaph,
"Nature and nature's laws lay hid in night;
God said "Let Newton be" and all was light."
