Injuries and
Extermination
The merry-go-round was always
my favorite playground toy. It was so much fun
to hang on at super fast
speeds and daringly jump on and off with the other kids. Of
course with so much risky fun
comes consequences. Condemned one of the most
dangerous playground
equipments, it is hard to find an authentic merry-go-round in
the
local parks. Injuries
occur often from being thrown off on to the gravel to
trampling other
children in your path. There
have been alternate designs of the merry-go-round that you can
find across the world, but none
will recreate the thrill of the original metal spinner.
I have
heard countless stories about merry-go-round scrapes and bruises
and only one concussion.
There has been one recorded
death. A sixteen year old girl, who's name was never released,
died
in Marysville as she recreated a
stunt from the movie "Jackass: The Movie". However, the stunt
was
obviously dangerous and was not
in the merry-go-rounds fault. The stunt involves attaching a
rope to
a truck on one end and wrapping
it around the base of the merry-go-round. When the truck
accelerates
away, the merry-go-round spins
extremely fast. This caused the girl to fly off the ride into
the pavement.
The loss of a life should not be
taken lightly, but other children and their toys should not be
punished
for others' carelessness (Witter, 2004).
Scary Merry-Go-Round video!!! No one dies :)
