Manned Space Flight...

...is the pinnacle of human endeavor.

Man first reached the moon on July 20, 1969.
It has now been almost 40 years since that feat has been repeated.
There are many people who would argue that the cost of space flight outweighs the scientific benefits, but I disagree.  There is a vast array of technologies that we enjoy and rely on today that have come about as a result of NASA's continued research into space flight.

Beyond that, exploration has always been a part of human nature.  When we cease the exploration of our universe and the pursuit of scientific knowledge, we relinquish our position as an enlightened being.  We eschew all the privileges and responsibilities that come with higher consciousness.

The next obvious target for space exploration (among major bodies) in our solar system is Mars.
