Finishing Times
Around 1693 Newton endured a mental breakdown. The reasons for it are not determined, but
can be linked to a few factors.
Overwork, chemical poisoning from nearly 30 years of alchemy, are some
of the factors that may have triggered it.
Soon after he recovered from the mental breakdown he was selected to be
Master of the Mint in London in 1696. In
1703 he was elected as president of the Royal Society and was re-elected each
year up to his death in 1727. In 1705 he
was knighted by Queen Anne for previous work, no other scientist had had this
honor before Newton. Sir Isaac Newton
died on March 31st, 1727 and was buried in Westminster Abby in
London.
