Uses for Solar Energy!

Solar energy has been used since the existence of mankind. Ancient Native American tribes like the Anasazi built their homes out of absorbent clay so that they could utilize the sun's light and warmth. With an understanding of a free, non-polluting natural energy resource, the sun, these ancient people were able to keep their houses cool in the summer and warm in winter.

Today, photovoltaic panels use the sun to produce electricity, helping people operate a fully functioning household.

Another early invention of solar energy, in the form of light, was the sundial which used the shadow caused by the sun to determine the time of day.

Today, solar energy uses have expanded. Solar cookers, water pumps, purifiers, and heaters enable individuals to exist without the use of electricity. From heating the air to solar bar-b-ques, people have learned to tap into the sun's energy.
