History of Curling
- The exact date of when curling originated
is uncertain. The earliest known stone was found with the date 1511
etched on the side.
- The origin of the game is also debated,
but most indicators suggest that it came from Scotland, with the other
main idea being the Low Countries.
- In any case, the Scots kept it going, and
helped it grow, creating rules and spreading it to other countries
- Curling is often termed "The Roarin'
Game" because of the sound that the stone makes as is slides along the
ice.
- In the early days of curling, some places
used melted down cannon balls or shaped wood with a metal ring around
it for ballast.
