Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) are growing in popularity while energy conservation and efficiency become increasingly critical issues. Plug in Hybrids (PHEVs) have the potential for further increased gas mileage and with new technology may serve as a distributed battery system for offsetting peak loads in electric utility grids. (Ref. 2)
