Introduction
Container Glass. It’s useful, beautiful, 100% infinitely recyclable and reusable. 10 million tons of glass containers are made in the U.S. annually, and another 650,000 lbs. are imported from foreign manufactures. It comprises an average of 6.6% of American municipal waste streams by weight and 1.5% by volume. It is second largest contributor, by weight, to recycling programs (the first being newspaper).
Container Glass is nothing more than sand (melted silica), limestone, and sodium carbonate. Our food, drinking, and glass storage containers are all a combination of these compounds. Containers are formed into all shapes and sizes, and come in a variety of colors.
