A Little History
Hydropower has been
around for much longer than many may think. For about 2000yrs!
Durning the 1st century B.C. people were using rivers and steams to
turn waterwheels which then would create work (Ristinen).

Above is a picture of a waterwheel
built a man today. This is a great example of how waterwheels may have
looked in the 1st centurt B.C.
How this worked is very simple. The wheel which is built near a source
of water was used to turn or push things. This was possible due to the
running current of the water hitting the wheel and causing it to turn.
This turning motion of the wheel could be connected to what the people
needed ot to pull, push or grind. It was that simple. Although not all
models were that simple, some were highly complex!
